With the Royal Wedding fast approaching, everyone’s eyes have been on Kate Middleton’s dress, but my eyes are firmly on the cake….
It was therefore an honour to be asked by Cotswold Life to create their very own Royal Wedding cake for the front cover. Taking the ‘crazy ideas’ of Mike Lowe and transforming them into a three tier cake was an exciting process. Each tier was individually designed to represent aspects of the Royal couple’s life from work to play, and of course the Cotswolds.
Each piece was handcrafted from the sheep with their wooly coats, helicopters, polo ponies and motorbikes, to the essential red, white and blue bunting! I can safely say that the painstaking task of recreating a Cotswold stone wall in sugarpaste was the most demanding element of the cake. But with all this, how do you top a Royal Wedding cake? With your very own sugarpaste ‘Wills and Kate’ of course.
